Match Report - Ind / Eng - Request to Moderators / Admin team
« on: February 21, 2006, 04:18:10 PM »

Hi,

Request to all top guns out here Sahir / Kban / Blwe / Dex / Dhruv / CLR /Gourav / and everybody else whom I might have missed out.

Can you sub divide amongst yourselves certain areas of covering the match like : Kban will do the captaincy analysis for the day, Sahir will do Batting analysis, etc...

The areas which we could cover are :

1. Captaincy - Good moves, Bad moves  - covering bowling changes, field placements, batting order changes etc..
2. Batting  - For each batsman, Any noticed strenghts, weaknesses, Shot of the day, running between wickets etc.
3. Bowling - For each bowler, Tendency to bowl short / overpitch / line length, run up, action etc.,,
4. Media coverage - Captain quotes, Coach quotes, Manager quotes, Players / ex players quotes etc...

We can have a single match report thread covering everything or separate threads depending on the topics you want cover..

I know I might be asking for a bit too much, but if you can do this we can get some focussed and qualitative / quantitative analysis, which would then trigger some good discussion amongst us...

Thanks

Sure. As it is all of us together (I mean the entire DG) bring out interesting topics anyway. If we add method to that it is even better.

Hey you know I am sure you can think of something derogatory about Cover point and once there we can go down the same old path again :)

Nah, was hoping that now we can discuss things rather than name calling.

Dex, yes, it would be good if you can create a separate board or thread for the same. Also it would be good if you can provide a link to other threads from within the same thread. For e.g. If there is a separate thread on batting analysis, there could be a link for the bowling thread so that people can switch between these threads easily without having to use the "back" button.

Sahir , Dhruv, Gourav, Justforkix, coverpoint and blwe have already shown interest in contributing so we have enough to get it started with one person per topic (more topics at fine grain level) or two persons per topic (say batting, bowling and captaincy).

I have to be at work the whole of next week (I was thinking of bunking earlier) and would be able to watch only the highlights and I would be for a change be relying on the DG analysis as the first source for match reports.

this is a good point. though i am not necessarily thinking along the lines of babe meter, if we could have someone who could give a short take on what the crowds were like and basically profile them (we could keep some sort of record on this), that would be nice.

Can we go to the next level on what we can expect on each topic :

Batting - Overall summary , Best Batsman, Worst batsman, Shot(s) of the day

Bowling - Overall summary, Best Bowler, Worst Bowler, Ball(s)/ Over(s) of the day

Fielding  - Overall summary, Best fielder, Worst Fielder, Catch of the day, Stop of the day....

Captaincy & Match report - Best captaincy move, Bowling changes including end changes, Batting order changes, Field placements, Match report, turning points, outlook for the next day.

Media and crowd coverage - Various links to media reports, Best commentator, Worst commentator, Quotes, crowd behaviour, Tour diary....

All we need now is for people to put their hands up and take up their positions !!! If we do it well this series and next ones, then is a very good exercise towards our build up for the WC 2007.

Vision - To be NUMBER ONE INDIAN CRICKET DISCUSSION FORUM of the Indian Cricket Fans, for the Indian Cricket Fans, by the Indian Cricket Fans - Jai Hind !!!

Dex, yes we can turn the match thread board into match analysis board. One of the threads there could be live action, which would enable posting of live scores as in the current match thread. The key thing is to provide links on each thread for the other related threads so that people can move around easily between different topics.

Guess everybody is busy discussing the pro, anti, why, why nots. Time to move on and focus on the matches to come. The england series is a good opportunity to structure our thoughts on cricket related discussions.

JFX has volunteered for Fielding analysis. To make a simple start, we need volunteers (who will watch the match live) on Batting, Bowling and Captaincy.

I want to do something too.. Though I've very few posts here I've a few hundred in the other forum and I spend quite a lot of time on the forum every day (I'm also one of the first members to join this forum. 3rd to be precise). I hope someone who knows/remembers me(or atleast my thumbnail) can back me up and give me some work :)

I think I'm good at statistical analysis. Ofcourse I can give my opinion on captaincy moves etc... I leave to the senior members to assign me a specific task.

I would like to pick overall analysis - like what is likely to be the key point of the match, the day, what target should a team be looking at, whar are the turning points etc.

As the match progresse some one should try to set up a score card. Not the plain an simple boring ones that you normally see.

One can include Time in Time out, bowling spells, for dismissals, a one liner on how the batsman was out,

For fall of wickets include detail on the batsman who was not out his score, in which of his overs did the bowler dismiss him

Details on fours and sixes, who hit who and where ?

Now thats going to take some doing but nothing is impossible i guess.

A good scorecard will tell the story well

But cricinfo does most of it unless we want to keep it in house.

i think most useful will be insightful analysis, rather than statistical analysis that cricinfo can do better than us.

but yeah, things like who got hit for 6 and such will be helpful since cricinfo doesnt always tell you that in their long winded beautiful prose.

Terrific response !!!

Dhruv         - Bowling Analysis
Gourav        - Overall Analysis
Justforkix    - Fielding Analysis
Senthil        - Crowd Behaviour (babe meter)
Openforum - Captaincy
Teddy        - Stats

Need volunteers for Batting - Sahir, Blwe, CP havent picked up anything so far, though they have shown interest.  If one of you pickup batting, the remaining two along with Dex can play the role of editors.

Dex, as mentioned earlier can you please explore the possibility of providing links to the other analysis thread when people are browsing one thread.

What do you guys think--should we have a board with Match Analysis or should we rename the Match Thread->Match Thread and Analysis.

As far as linking goes, after everyone has posted, someone can make a new thread and link all of them from there.
