Note on Match thread
« on: April 02, 2006, 06:06:19 AM »

most users now use the chat function during games, so in case nobody is posting -- that is why!

I agree, can not get on to chat during office hours..one of the reasons I have more or less stopped participating. I also feel that the match thread had scope for more meaningful dialogue as compared to the chat.

I miss the match thread feature..

Just curious how is DG thread more convenient?
I thought both are equally inconvenient or convenient likewise?

IMO - I prefer DG thread- It could be archived or deleted after a couple of days if space is a issue.
For folks who are willing to stay on the CHAT window throughout the game - Advantages could be live responses.
The thread is not as realtime as Chat- but has other advantages.
We can visit the thread - see how does an individual's comment about  VS' 6 - or read posts for a time span when Yuvi cracked Asif.

For matches during day time EST - I personally don't prefer Chat(office constraints). It is not practical to monitor the posts realtime
For matches in night EST - I still dont prefer CHAT   ;D  - As most of the time we watch the matches - Are in chat only when need to read memebr comments- All we get is the happening latest hot topic. Match threads are one stop shop - You can go after a day and read out what members had to say about a particular incident in a reactionary way .

I am aware that Chats are more popular among active members - I think we may also open up a thread at the same time and let people divide as per their convinience.

I like Pankaj's suggestion..we can have the thread and a chat simultaneously..people can choose what they want. In my case, like I had said, I can not open a chat window from work.

I think someone tried that once but it did not work because no one posted on the match thread

i love the thread
during a match a  lot of nice observations and some outright funny ones are made. but i miss them if i am not logged in at that time.
on the thread i have once gone through 8 pages of posts because it was interesting to read.
now if you put a chat transcript it will be too long, because on the the chat everybody is yakking all the time and the topics are away from cricket into babes, booze, business.

the differecne between test and ondi cricekt for me. will always be a test fan. but i enjoy odis.

having said all this, i think the chat will remain now as the mainstay. but what one should do is that the mods should force people to post atleast one post after or during the match on the thread so that the match thread concept is alive, yeah make it compulsory i say. one post or no entry mext time in the chat. :)

compulsory donations to keep Test matches alive otherwise banned from ODI cricket :D
