HP is a minor team compared to Delhi, who had been Ranji Champions earlier.

It looks like both Delhi and TN will fall short. So will Karnataka which was trying for an outright win with a chase at 10+ RRR ... they looked in with a shout till Uthappa got out.

Overall, a round for the underdogs

-Maharashtra got points over Mumbai
-HP got points over Delhi
-Rajasthan got points over Karnataka
-Orissa beat Hyderabad
-Bengal beat Punjab (though difficult to say who was the favourite here)

Orissa beat Bengal by 6 wickets.

Bose gets 4 wickets through the match (2/19 & 2/32) ... a poor show on a wicket where the match got over in the first session of the third day.

Delhi v/s Maharashtra - Bhupi Singh is watching this match and I hope he takes note of this performance.

R Bhatia 16 6 29 5 1.81

R Bhatia not out 95 222 268 5 2 35.44

He was the only Delhi batsman who looked good in the practice match against Pakistan as well.

To be noted in the Delhi match is that Sangwan failed to get a wicket while Bhatia picked up 5 and now scored a century.

:D

But, jokes apart, I doubt he will really come into contention. If you read CI's profile of this guy, he was one of those who were on the verge of selection at one point .. however, once he did not make the cut at that point, he was quickly discarded and the next set of hopefuls were brought up. If you look at his batting and bowling averages, they are quite good ... and he did look quite good against Pakistan in the recent match.

I think the saddest part of our selection system is how these guys just go on the backburner and get forgotten once they do not make the cut on the first attempt ... Ga*eep Singh is another such guy and I am very sure there are many more guys like that. I also think that the likes of Badri, Raina, Bose etc could go the same way. I am not saying pick these guys now. But, the next time an opportunity arises, just dont ignore these guys just because we have already seen them once.

The inherent assumption seems to be that players peak out in terms of ability once they make it to the national squad for the first time .. after that, there is no scope for improvement .. hence there is no point in looking at them again. The only way some of these guys can then come back is to do a Laxman .. which is ideal, but not always possible.

The best way is to get these guys to make up the India A squad rather than having a new India A squad every year .. based on who the latest u-19 star is.

Yeah .. but, you can bet anything you want that Sangwan has a better chance of being considered for an India cap than Bhatia.

Another interesting match ...

Andhra 159 & 127
Hyderabad 132 & 16/2 (8.0 ov)

Hyderabad require another 139 runs with 8 wickets remaining ... should be a piece of cake .. given that they have a Bad Track Bully (Arjun Yadav) still to come!!

No reason actually just that I have noticed that if you do not make it into the Indian side by latest 23, then the chances are that you never will.

Hyderabad wins a close one ... Arjun Yadav clearly the man of the match here .. scoring 49 and 43 in two low scoring innings.

Andhra 159 & 127

Hyderabad 132 & 155/7 (67.1 ov)

Hyderabad won by 3 wickets

Mumbai finding it difficult to get through Rajasthan .. only 1 wicket before lunch. If they dont get an outright win here, I think they are in big trouble.

I think Mumbai will still be #3 in that group. But that group is jam packed with 5-6 teams still with a chance to get thru to semis. But it'll be funny if Rajasthan pull off a win !!!! 179 in 2 sessions may be tough, but they may make a dash for it in the final session with wkts in hand !!
