Truly class will tell. RD gets dropped and goes out and scores a double hundred and a hundred. Our triple centurion on the other hand scores the odd fifty here and seems to be playing more in hope than conviction. GG has surely cooked Sehwags goose. ;D

Yet, dont be surprised if you see Veeru's name on the Indian team sheet if KKD fails a couple of more times .. citing past record.

Ya  Melbourne will carry more weight than all his failures. Still we can hope that Badri, Raina or Kaif get a look in.

Raina fell cheaply too .. just 5 ... but the match looks like a draw .. with Punjab needing another 5 wickets in 13 overs to force a win!

The much maligned  *AS Yadav (rhb) 61 169 6 2 36.09
Good to see Arjun Yadav get to his 100 and save Hyd. and keep the Pathan brothers at bay.  A captain's knock.

On another note Sehwag justified the selectors faith in keeping him on the sidelines with a first ball duck.  I do not think they should select him for the Aussie tour.

Badrinath and Gambhir are clearly ahead of him at this point.  Great to see both get 100's in the matches they played for their team and head to head Gambhir kicked Sehwag's butt.

So, is this guy really good or is it a case of nepotism? A bit of both, I guess - given that I do remember a couple of good knocks with the India-A team as well.

But, Badri is a MO batsman (no vacancy) and Gambhir is a fluke!

Sehwag is all class ... it will all come out when he plays an international team. As SMG said great players find it difficult to play against mediocre opposition!

I did not have any positions in mind.  All I know is there are better alternatives to Sehwag in whatever position he wants to play.  Badri and Gambhir are two of them.   Whatever SMG says with his always baised views on game of cricket past success is never a forecaster for future success unless one demonstrates reasonable success at domestic level which Sehwag failed to this point in comparision to his competitiors.

And for your comment on GG being a fluke I consider that a tongue in a cheek comment.

Assuming we take a 16-member team to Australia, it will be a 5pacers + 2spinners + WK + 3 openers + 5 middle order bats. So, GG gets in as backup opener (my choice would still be PP). Yuvi gets in as backup middle order bat. So, sadly, Badri will miss out unless we pick a 17-member squad.

This fellow Arjun Yadav is so damn good that his father got to play for India and be on the selection committee thanks to his son's exploits!

Arjun is a case of pure class, and everyone who criticizes him will be forced to eat crow like he showed today. Ambati Rayudu thought he was bad, and see what happened to him - banished to the ICL to rot with losers like Lara.

Why has Chopra suddenly moved to No.3??

Gambhir and Chopra neck and neck on 32 each ... Chopra has actually got more boundaries than Gambhir!!!

How did Delhi get knocked over for 75 against Himachal Pradesh???

Delhi fighting back ... 235/1

*G Gambhir (lhb) 89 175 9 0 50.85
A Chopra (rhb) 92 175 10 1 52.57

It will be a travesty if Sehwag is picked as one of the openers for the Aussie tour, given Gambhir's current form. Even Chopra has outscored Sehwag across all matches they have played together.

Good to see a guy coming back from injury and picking his form back as if he did not go away at all.

M Tiwary c sub (S Ladda) b Goel 138 (234m 183b 17x4 0x6) SR: 75.40

I think this guy needs to be ahead of Rohit Sharma in the pecking order.

The Ranji Trophy is losing credibility to me. All the people with a smidgen of talent are dominating and scoring hundreds by the bucketful or taking loads of wickets whereas many others are just scoring 10s and 20s and taking none or one wicket.

How are you supposed to differentiate a Raina hundred to a Tiwary hundred to a Yusuf Pathan hundred to a Chopra hundred to a Gambhir hundred...etc...

I think the bowling strengths of teams do vary. Punjab has Ga*eep and VRV and is a much better attack than many teams. A team like Andhra or Hyderabad is much poorer in that dept. Then there is the pitch that has to be taken into account. That is why looking at averages only is very risky in Ranji.

Group B: Uttar Pradesh v Baroda at Lucknow - Dec 1-4, 2007
Stumps - Uttar Pradesh require another 216 runs with 10 wickets remaining
Baroda 334 and 148; Uttar Pradesh 209 and 58/0
RP Srivastava 30*  TM Srivastava 28*  RK Solanki 2-0-2-0  YK Pathan 7-5-7-0

If UP pull this off, it will be some victory.
They should pull this off.. sounds like the battle is between Kaif & Raina vs Pathans!!

Lol .. I agree .. but by that yardstick, Veeru appears to have lost whatever talent he ever had!

And where would you fit a Agarkar 95 and a Powar 106 in this ?

UP - 115/4 .. Raina gone for 20 .. needs another 159 runs with 6 wickets in hand ... all down to Kaif now, I suspect
