Ind-Eng Test at Nagpur - T1D3
« on: March 02, 2006, 03:39:14 PM »

The main problem with the Indian bowlers now is that they are too dependent on analysis of the batsmen by the backroom boys. Notice how they seem to have planned field settings and lines of attack for the frontline batsmen. This works more often than not and reduces opponent sides quickly to 4 or 5 down in next to no time.
Then comes the problem.. No strategies have been chalked out for the tailenders. The bowlers are not tuned nowadays to "think" batsmen out like in the days of Imran, Bedi et al. So they just run in and send down their stuff in hope that things will work out. The tail naturally wags.
What we need is more strategy by the backroom guys for the tailenders as well. Or we need someone like Munaf just to blast them out.
The final wicket of Panesar just proves my point. When at last Sreesanth worked out that line and length to tail enders was just not enough, he went back to planned strategy. Two short ones-- the glare to take the batsman's mind off what is coming up next--- the sucker punch full length delivery. Worked like a charm. If only the rest of the bowlers had tried strategy instead of hope we could have got them out before 300.
We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.
